I actually just moved into a 1BR myself by Columbus Circle. I had a vague budget for furnishing my living room and buying the necessities for the kitchen. I’ve lived about 2 weeks in my apt and realized I am way over my budget and still have things I need to purchase (bought a boxee box, home theater system, but don’t have blinds yet, go figure- bachelor redditor). The bare necessities I purchased first, such as pots and pans, but the little things I can do without (toilet paper roll holder, etc), I’m waiting for deals to pop up. You should buy things slowly, and not try to purchase everything all at once. Also, I came to realize lugging all the shit I need to purchase can be expensive with cabs, renting a truck etc, so I just got Amazon Prime instead, which offers 2 day free shipping- a HUGE game changer. I was going to get a sick coffee table from ABC Furniture which would have costed a pretty penny, but found it on CL instead. Look to see what you want to purchase and look it up on CL, chances are the exact one you want is on there, or at the least something comparable. DO NOT purchase anything used that is made out of wood. Mattresses and sofas are definite no-no’s (people selling 2k couches for 500 dollars indicates the supply/need for used couches). Look on for deals on “Home” stuff. Hire Chinese movers, they’re cheap and time efficient. They offer moves for a flat rate of 180 dollars. PM me if you want their contact information. If you’re moving into a doorman building, you’re going to have to talk to the super/management about your move in date. Usually they don’t allow you to move in during after work hours on weekdays, and usually not on weekends at all. They will make exceptions of course. Moving is a colassal pain in the ass as you probably already know, so pick a spot that you’re happy with. ENJOY your 1BR. It comes with a huge premium in the city but it is enormously satisfying. I’m actually in my living room nude typing this while watching hentai. I fucking win.
