I agree with you because irrational decisions will lead to poverty but don’t assume people in poverty make irrational decisions. The first sentence in your statement basically says that. I’ve made rational decisions but was impoverished most of my life, it wasn’t until opportunity presented itself that I was able to climb out of that. I’m now living in a condo in a neighborhood filled with millionaires. I drive an expensive German 2 seater and overall I’ve done pretty damn well for myself but I couldn’t have without some government help along the way. My uncle is another example. He was on food stamps for a while due to a divorce. He now lives in a mcmansion (near me interestingly enough) and has also done very well for himself. An example to support the second sentence in your statement is one of my neighbors, Fantasia Barrino. She just got evicted recently even though she was a millionaire. She made stupid decisions and back to the poor house she’s going.
